I am laughing at my cabinets right now. Half used everything is crammed into the nooks and crannies of my kitchen. I think it is time for a late spring-cleaning of things I NEVER want to taste again. Among the flours, crackers, cereals and etc are numerous bottles of soy sauces. I have tried a few (maybe even all gluten free soy sauces there is to be had). There is one brand I will keep however…
Most people are oblivious to the fact soy sauce contains wheat. Unlike tamari, it is brewed to help blend and balance the flavors. Soy sauce is not as harsh on the taste buds as tamari’s soybeans, water and salt mixture. Most “gluten free soy sauces” are actually gluten free tamari sauces which can really mess up the flavor of a dish with a powerful hit of soybeans.
La Choy, my preferred gluten free soy sauce, is a “synthetic” soy sauce that delivers the right flavor without the wheat. Synthetic meaning they replicated the soy sauce flavor and texture without actually spending the effort brewing. It is mild, thick and pretty much everything a soy sauce needs to be for cooking and dipping.
Feel free to try a few sauces yourself, or save a buck or two and just pick up a bottle of La Choy Soy Sauce. Its added bonus: easy to find (even in the least gluten free friendly food markets).
